Carolyn Bigley, owner of Davis Islands Pet Care, has adopted both Davis Islands Dog Park and Dog Beach through "Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful", in an effort to keep the parks safe and clean for all users. Since, she uses both dog beach and park on regular basis, she realized that there many issues and improvements that need to be addressed. One of the biggest problems is owners not picking up dog wastes. Carolyn began going out to the parks twice a week and cleaning up, but quickly realized this was going to have to be a bigger effort. Carolyn has partnered with Jennifer Fadal, another Island business owner(WAG Natural Pet Boutique) .Together, they are in the process of recruiting volunteers for weekly and monthly clean-ups and forming a "Friends of Davis Islands Dog Park" group to help maintain and make improvements to both parks. The second issue, is the condition of the community boards (kiosks) that are in front of the parks. They are a complete mess. With agreement from Tampa Parks and Recreation, the community boards will be renovated and regularly maintained. In addition, we will be dedicating an area for people to post lost/found pets, pets for adoption, and non-profit community related events.
There are other areas that we would love to improve, such as replacing/ adding benches, replacing, adding trees, possibly adding a pet memorial garden, all which require volunteers and financial contributions. Please consider becoming a park sponsor or donating to the "Friends of Davis Islands Dog Park" cause. All donations go directly to dog park maintenance and improvements. Just a reminder to all dog owners, please be considerate to others. If your dog is showing any signs of aggression or unruly behavior that is making others uncomfortable, please be kind, and remove your dog from the park. And please, please, clean-up after your pets! Remember, the parks are very close to "Tampa Bay" . Please me mindful, be a responsible pet owner, and "Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful".
